AACE Continuous Glucose Monitoring Consensus Statement
American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) recently published a consensus statement on continuous glucose monitoring (CGM). The statement:
- identifies which patients would be most appropriate for CGM including: patients who are frequently hypoglycemic, have A1C levels over their targets, have considerable variability in glycemic levels, need to lower A1C levels without increasing hypoglycemic events, or are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- recommends that longer-term studies are needed to assess outcomes beyond 6-12 months, and notes that continued work to refine the accuracy and comfort of the devices is necessary
